Obituary of Hilary Gibson
Peacefully, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the age of 80. Hilary (nee Fletcher), beloved mother of Sarah (Tim McLaren) of Calgary, Vanessa (Rob Clay) of Ottawa, and Eve (Chris Houghton) of Whitby. Loving and proud grandmother of Andrew and Katherine; Julie and Thomas; and Xander, Ethan and Leila. Predeceased by her parents Herbert and Cecilia (Walsh), her brothers Peter, Owen and James, and her sister Sarah. Survived by former husband Jim Gibson.
Hilary was born in 1944 during WWII in Bournemouth, UK, and grew up in southern Africa. She immigrated to Canada in 1966 and loved to explore and drive across Canada from coast to coast. Hilary retired in 2009 as a tax auditor with the Canada Revenue Agency. In 2010, she earned her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Gordon Mercer for his kindness and support. The family of Hilary Gibson will receive family and friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, "McDermott-Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Saturday, September 21st from 2 – 3 p.m. A Service to celebrate her life will be held in the Chapel at 3 p.m. The family invites family and friends to join them for light refreshments on the second floor of Jesters Court Pub and Eatery, 291 Queen Street, Port Perry from 4 - 5 p.m. following the service.
