Obituary of Robert George Free
After a life well lived and with family by his side, Robert passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the age of 79. He was surrounded by music and those he loved. Robert Free was the loving husband of Marianne (nee Vernon) of Port Perry. He was the proud father of Craig Free and Hillary Whitehead of Blackstock, Ryan Free of Blind River, and Brett and Dana Free of Little Britain. Cherished Poppa of Brianne (Lucas Reid), Robert and Hannah Free, Sophia and Tyson Free. Great Poppa to Devon Reid. Loving brother to Donald Free and his wife Louise, and Nancy Teno and her husband Ed. Cherished brother-in-law to Barbara Vernon (wife of the late Robert Vernon), John and Isabell Vernon, and Peter Vernon and his partner Desmond. Fun loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Bob will be missed by many relatives, friends, neighbors, and members of the community and church.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman, gifted musician, talented woodworker, friend to all and the life of the party!
A celebration of Robert's life will take place at the Port Perry United Church on Tuesday, April 2nd with visitation from 10 a.m. – 12 noon immediately followed by a service. A reception will be held following the service in the church auditorium. Private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Port Perry United Church Memorial Fund or to the Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry.
