Bob Porteous

Obituary of Bob Porteous

Robert Aylwin "Bob" Porteous

Passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at the Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, at age 87. Son of the late Frances “Bonnie” and Gerald Porteous. Loving husband of the late Sylvia (nee Winkler). Dedicated father of Ron and his wife Marion, Brenda and her husband Scott, and Jeff and his wife Angela. Proud Grandad of Julianne & Victoria, Mae, Eloise & Esther, and Quintin & Owen. Bob will also be missed by his long-time companion Joan Phillips.

Bob was an avid model railroad enthusiast and his train layout was impressive and always a work in progress. He loved to show his grandkids his trains, but was never quite sure he wanted to let them drive!

He was also active in his community in Hanover, and was a Cub and Scout leader for many years, a natural extension of his love for camping and the outdoors. He and Sylvia were part of a square dance club for many years. He also spent countless hours at the Hanover Coliseum watching his kids’ hockey games or figure skating competitions.

Bob loved a good joke, and could never pass up the opportunity to drop a good Dad pun. He had his kids and nursing staff laughing right up until his final days.

His children would like to express immense gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff and volunteers at the Oak Ridges Hospice who made his last days comfortable and peaceful. They would also like to thank the nursing staff at the Port Perry Villa who took exceptional care of him while he waited to go to hospice. And finally, thanks also to the doctors and nursing staff at Lakeridge Health Port Perry.

Private arrangements have been entrusted to the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171). An interment ceremony will be held in Hanover in the spring. If desired, memorial donations would be gratefully received at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry. Memories, photos and condolences may be left at www.waggfuneralhome.com
