Condolences to Arthur's family and friends. Art was my friend and brother, a respected tool and die maker as well as a fearless trade union leader. Arthur was one of the most intelligent persons I have ever met. He will be missed by many.

I've known Art for many years, and always enjoyed speaking to him when he would drop in to my blacksmith shop. Many times he would bring a bent or twisted piece of metal from the farm he was still working at that needed straightening etc. We would end up talking about many things including his knowledge of metal related work and all his machines. I will miss seeing him so much. So glad to have known him. Condolences and all the best to his family.

Met Arthur and his darling at McDonald’s June 22nd this year and took this picture
At 9:22 pm.
I asked if I could take a picture and he moved away from the car.
I said no, I want you as well- he seemed pleased. He proceeded to tell me of
His other car and the gentleman he purchased her from, as well as history of
Uxbridge. Across from our location, he explained of a mill and all sorts of
Interesting things.
He is an absolute precious treasure. I was looking forward to seeing Arthur
Powell again as he advised of the car meets – Tuesday and Thursday.
We also spoke about him working for GM and at the Scarborough
Van Plant and I mentioned to him he may have met my brother Mark Thompson
Who would have started there in 1976 and worked til he went to the Oshawa
Plant - Mark worked for GM for 43.6 years and Arthur said he must have run into
him at some point and I spoke with Mark and he confirmed.
We are both saddened. Arthur is wonderful - Drive with wings

Dear Ellie, It was with great shock and sorrow that I heard about Art's accident. He was a special and unique person with so many great skills. We started school together and although there were great gaps between the times we might see each other later in life it was always a pleasure to meet and have a chat, to see his latest piece of antique machinery he had resurrected. Dad used to take many pieces of equipment to Art to fix and, although it might take awhile, it was always fixed perfectly to last a lifetime. Sorry I will not be able to come to the visitation or funeral as I had already committed to helping out at the Lion's booth at Uxbridge Fair and they are always short handed. I expect probably Art intended to be there at some point in the weekend as well. My deepest sympathies to you, your children, his sibling and all the family. Love Pat Asling

Sorry for you loss . I had the pleasure working with Art in the tool room at the GM van plant . He was a brilliant man and taught me in my apprenticeship at the time . The plant closed and we all went our separate ways , but I always had fond memories of Art the tips and tricks of the tool and die trade the stories of cattle farming and his friend Freddy Mack . He was a great guy
