It is with profound sadness that the family of Eileen Mary Nelson (nee Varty) announce her passing on Monday, August 15, 2022 at the age of 89 years. Eileen, making her way to Edmonton, Alberta to begin a new chapter in her life, was in a tragic automobile accident. She passed away at Regina General Hospital with family by her side. Eileen Nelson of Nestleton, Ontario will be forever missed by her daughter Linda Menon of Edmonton, Alberta, and her son Douglas Greenley and his wife Charity Shaver of Oyen, Alberta, stepchildren Lorrie and her husband Jerome Diotte of Oshawa, Shelly and her husband Rick MacFarlane of Brooklin, and Rudi Nelson and his wife Theresa of Oshawa. Loving grandmother to her 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Ross and his wife Irene Varty of Oshawa, Shirley and her husband Ken Fahey of Laval, QC, Gordon and his wife Marion of Havelock, and Fred and his wife Barbara of Lake Cordova. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews as well as her friends at the Caesarea Christian Fellowship, her cards group and quilting guild. Eileen was predeceased by her loving husband Robert "Bob" Nelson (2021) who adored her for 47 years, her parents James and Edith (Tharby) Varty, sisters Lillian and Stella Varty and Ruth Moffatt, sister-in-law Mae Varty, and brother George and his wife Barbara Varty. Eileen was born and raised in Oshawa, retired from General Motors, was an accomplished seamstress and award-winning quilt maker. She was passionate about working in her gardens, which produced a beautiful display of floral colours and a bountiful harvest of fresh vegetables. Eileen had a twinkle in her eye, a beautiful smile, great sense of humour, quick wit and an undeniable love for the Lord. Our mother, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend will be forever in our hearts.
