To the family.
My heart is heavy with the loss of Wilma. Such a long and beautiful life. The love of this big family. She will be missed.
My memories of your dear Mom were many in the few years I knew her. I treasure her. Always a big smile and hug and kiss every Sunday morning. I loved her dearly.
I send my regrets that I could not be at her celebration of life. I am recovering from knee surgery.
Our precious Wilma is with our Father at His side. Our Angel RIP

Wilma's Story
Wilhelmina (Wilma) Martina den Boer (née Knibbe) was born in Leens, Groningen, the Netherlands on April 13, 1922. The fourth of eight children, she grew up on a farm near Badhoevedorp, in Haarlemmermeer, a polder in North Holland. The family farm is now part of Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. After elementary school and one year of junior high, Wilma enrolled in a home economics school for three years. John den Boer, her future husband, moved from the province of Zeeland to Badhoevedorp to attend an agricultural school and then started working as a crop inspector. They met during a parade celebrating the country’s liberation in 1945 and were married on October 30, 1946. Desiring to farm, they moved to France and in 1953, along with their four children, ranging in age from five to one, emigrated to Port Perry, where they had one more child. They purchased a small farm in 1955 for the grand sum of $7,250 and operated a poultry and mixed farm for 30 years.
The family first attended Hebron Christian Reformed Church in Whitby and later Hope Church in Port Perry. Wilma supported John in his many volunteer positions in church and other Christian and community organizations. They both believed strongly in Christian education and worked hard to encourage and enable all their five children to attend Calvin College. John passed away in 1994 and Wilma lived in a granny suite with Archie and Reta since that time.
Wilma was very involved in church life throughout her life and found various ways to share her faith and beliefs. She served as the President of the regional Ladies’ Society for several years. She expressed her Christian commitment further by providing day care for Coffee Break, serving lunches for Community Care and contributing to a knitting ministry group that made and donated quilts and blankets to various charities. And, we cannot even count the number of slippers, socks, and dishcloths she knitted for children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
Wilma was surrounded by family and friends. She always welcomed warmly, serving countless cups of coffee, tea, and goodies to her guests. She had the gift of connecting with people of all ages. She showed a genuine interest in the lives of others and enjoyed sharing her faith. She lived through some difficult times including the Great Depression, World War II in occupied Holland, two immigrations, financial challenges in the early years of married life, the Covid pandemic, and the loss of her eldest daughter Arianne. She always looked at the bright side and gave thanks in all circumstances.
The matriarch of her family, Wilma was the glue that kept us all together. Her compassion, kindness, and godly example will be missed by many, including her children, 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and all her friends.
