Grace and Don were original members of the Geranium Society of Ontario. They were avid collectors and had an amazing collection of Geraniums [Pelargoniums] and would share their rare varieties with other members. Both served on the executive of the society in many capacities over the years. Grace and Don often hosted the executive meetings at their house in Nestleton and were excellent hosts, always making the meetings a fun event. When it came time to move into the retirement residence, Don and Grace distributed their collection to the other members so that the many rare varieties would live on. We missed them at our meetings after that. Now they can both work together in the heavenly garden. Our sincere sympathy to their family and many friends. Andy and nijole Cherkas

Our Aunt Grace
Grace was born in St. John's, Newfoundland on September 25, 1938, the fifth daughter in a family of six for Joseph and Eliza Walters. She was the last of her generation of the Walters family. We are the children of Grace's eldest sister. Grace was the youngest sister and only four years older than Margaret, the eldest of us.
In 1950, when Grace was eleven, her parents died within two months of each other and she came to live with our family on Bell Island. 'Aunt' Grace quickly became Grace, an older 'sister'. After finishing her grade nine, she went to Toronto with another of her sisters and completed her high school education. Grace quickly obtained a secretarial job at Canada Packers, where she spent her working career. Along the way, Grace met Donald Proutt and they were married in 1969.
Grace and Donald built a new home in Nestleton, adjacent to the farm of Donald's parents. We visited there on various occasions and were always impressed by their enormous geranium collection. Grace and Donald were especially good at getting to Newfoundland for the big family events, particularly the weddings. Those travels declined in later years and their move into senior living reduced our contacts to letters , cards and phone calls.
With Grace's passing, we realize that another lifeline has been crossed. We will cherish the good memories with thankful hearts.
Rest in peace, Grace.
Love,
Margaret Martin, Vivien Jones, Katharine Waye
