Dear Ron and family:
I had tried to call a number of times and had no idea that Mary passed away. I managed to find you on the internet and was shocked. I am so sorry. Mary and I grew up in the same block in Vancouver. We kept in touch over the years but I lost track of her when you moved to Ontario. Mary and Johan had wonderful parents and I especially thought the world of Angus who was always so kind. Mary was there for me when I was widowed at a very young age with a baby and another on the way. I was always so grateful to her for her support and friendship.
I hope Mary didn't suffer.
With my condolences.
Liz

I worked with Mary at Fraser Valley Regional Library. I was the children’s librarian for the Fort Langley Library for a number of years. Mary was always so welcoming and open to ideas. I presented storytimes and special puppet shows, often with my assistant Brian. A number of times, after we finished our program, Mary invited us back to her home for lunch. She was always fun to be with and so committed to library service and her community. She was kind and thoughtful and devoted to her family. I have many good memories of our time together. After we both retired we met for lunch a few times, those were good visits. I am grateful to have had her as a friend.

Hello Ron and Valerie,
I’m so sorry for your loss. I thought Mary was one of the most kind and caring people I have had the pleasure to meet. Visiting her and Ron in 2018 with my husband Paul was such a lovely experience.
She made an impact on so many people.
Paul and I wish you strength to get through this time.
You are in our thoughts.

Sarah and Family: So sorry to hear of Mary's passing. Although we didn't know Mary very well, we had a good chuckle with her and Ron the first time we met. Mary always had a smile and a wave every time she passed by me as I was walking the dogs. I remember bringing our granddaughter to your house for Halloween and there was Mary, handing out the candy, with the cheery, "Trick or Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat" dialogue. Remember all the good times you had with her. Our deepest condolences to you and your entire family. Tom and Jan Lovelock

Greetings from Fort Langley The place where we all lived as young parents, where our children went to school and to the little white church, St Andrew’s, where our children went to the park on Mayday to dance around the maypole and where we all went to the Post Office for the mail and chat with whoever, and to Lee’s Store for groceries, and to Waska’s Store for birthday gifts, and to the library to give and get books, and to say Hi to Mary Marquette, the librarian, and give and get the latest news. When the phone call from Sara and Valerie came with the very sad news of Mary’s death, my mind immediately filled with pictures of Mary on the many occasions on which we interacted. Certainly at the library where everyone was warmly greeted with inquiries about health or a trip. How did she remember everyone’s children, parents, pets. This ability she had t make every person seem important in some way was immensely beneficial to the library and indeed to the community. One of my best memories of Mary was after the Christmas Eve services at St Andrew’s when we were invited back to their home for drinks and goodies. It seemed so right to just sit and chat in total comfort with friends. Because Mary, Derek and I were of Scottish heritage there had to a Hogmanay party. These were festive occasions unlike Mary’s description of her father’s life on the Isle of Harris. I’m sure many of you could go on with many memories of our wonderful friend Mary. I’ll finish up with the last time we were with Ron and Mary in their home in Sydney. We went to Cape Breton for the Celtic Colours Festival and of course she insisted we stay with her and Ron. We had a grand time visiting and touring all over. We went to the pub to hear Ashley McIsaac play and to the final Celtic Concert. We had tickets but Mary and Ron didn’t. We persuaded them that if they came they would get in and they did, in fact sitting at the front in far better seats than we had. We had a laugh about it afterwards. So all we have now are memories, but what memories of this very special lady, Mary Marquette. From Chris and Derek Bisset
