Please accept my late condolences to Murray's family. I worked for Murray at age 18 painting outdoor in the summer and wallpapering in the winter months. Murray was a patient and kind man and I thoroughly enjoyed working for him. So much so that I started my own painting business a little later! Despite a degree from University , Murray's inspiration of working with my hands inspired me to go into the skilled trades and I became an electrician. Murray also played a hand in boosting my confidence to do my own renovations. I will always remember the toasted tomatoe sandwiches on the job and at Aunt Joyce and Edna's place. And most of all Murray's kindness and patience. RIP Murray. Heaven has gained a bright star. Sincerely Colleen T.

I was saddened to hear of Murray's passing. When I was 15 years old Murray gave me a job painting. I worked with him through high school and college. He was a good teacher and very thoughtful. In the summer, when his tomatoes were ready, he would bring his toaster and all the fixings so we could have toasted tomato sandwiches. I am grateful that Murry and I took time out to have lunch in summer 2020. My thoughts are with all his friends and family. Vicki Reid

I am so sorry to hear that Murray is no longer on this earth with all of us. Reading the memories that everyone has posted makes me smile and realize the depth and breadth of his being. I have know Murray for 40 years, when he first came to beautify our house with his talents as a brilliant painter. I remember one of the first times he came to our house, he said, “be careful who you talk about because I am related to most of the town!” I felt fortunate that our friendship continued throughout all those years. We shared Christmas and birthday gifts every year. His cards and gifts were a highlight of my celebrations. Last year, because he wasn’t driving, he cycled out to our farm in Utica in 90 degree heat! He seemed invincible. He was one of the kindest people I know. “There are some who bring a light so great into the world that even after they have Gone, the light remains. “ That is Murray Martha Larsen and family

I think we all have some wonderful Murray memories. He has been a wonderful neighbour and friend. In fact, I considered him my best friend. Recently it struck me that he made everyone feel that way… like they were the most important person in the world to him. What a remarkable legacy to have demonstrated tone and time again to others the true definition of fellowship with kindness, generosity, forgiveness, service to others, and love. I will miss him dearly. My thoughts, love and support go out to Ruth, Audrey, Gerald, the rest of the family… and all of his other “best friends” he’s left behind. Murray you are irreplaceable

Met Murray 40+ years ago as i worked on a berry farm and Murray sure loved his strawberries. He would stop by at the end of his work day and would bring me a milkshake from Bayshore. Then i started to work for him, which was through high school then college Amazing time, brought a toaster so we could have his tomatoes on toast at lunch, he was always the first with his crop. Murrays customers sure adored him as he was so caring and giving. Murray quickly became like family not only to myself but my parent's and then my kids also. So many birthdays and other occasions Murray was there. Pizza was a definite get together with myself and my kids, no mushrooms on Murrays half though :) We were trying to plan a pizza night just before Murray started feeling not so good. Murray…..you are so caring and giving, i will always admire and respect you for that Love Kim /Bless you.

I met Murray when I was 13 and he gave me my first job stripping off old wallpaper. Little did I know that it would turn into 10 years of work with him teaching me all the tricks of the trade and a lifetime of friendship. Murray taught me how to drive when I was 16 (with great patience and an adventurous spirit!) The work days would go by quickly as we would chat about life and he would tell me about things he had done and his plans for the next big thing, like the best new tv that was coming out, or the CN tower climb, or a hot air balloon ride, a CN tower edge walk… and he would always say “one day I’ll do that” and he always made all of it happen! The last time he came to my house I will never forget. I left him alone with the kids for no more than 5 mins before the kids told him we had a zip line in the backyard….. the next thing I knew, at the age of 81, there was Murray flying down the zipline!! He hops off and says “that’s a cool machine” with a giant grin! He was a truly inspiring and incredibly kind hearted man that I feel so grateful to have had in my life. Murray you made such an impact on more lives than you could ever know and I will miss you so very much!

As a member of the Port Perry United Church Stewards I want to thank Murray for all the Church building projects he has participated in over the years. Looking around the Church I see Murray's handy work on doors, window frames, balcony floors, Sunday School rooms, steps and all high to reach areas. He would quietly see projects and complete them without asking for help. His generosity of time, talents and his friendship will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace Murray.

Murray was my neighbour for years on Queen Street. I was just 16 years old when we moved to Port Perry and immediately Murray welcomed my family and I to the community.
He was sweet and kind to me from the get-go and took a keen interest in whatever I was doing.
He and I would watch Maple Leaf games together on his latest and greatest big screen TV, or we'd watch Crocodile Dundee or Crocodile Hunter, always sharing many laughs over a bowl of popcorn.
I would always chuckle at how he knew the newest gadgets before I had ever even heard of them.
When I was 17 years old I was assigned a class project to interview someone who I found interesting. I immediately thought of Murray, a man who I felt, and will always feel, is truly salt of the earth. He shared his life story with me and I couldn't fathom how he would ride his Raleigh bike all the way to Oshawa, passed all the horses at Windfield Farms, or how he'd climb the stairs at the CN Tower with ease.
I remember asking him then if he'd ever retire from his painting job that he loved. His words to me were "not yet." He was 65 when I conducted that interview and he certainly didn't retire until long after that.
Little did I know, and I don't think I ever told Murray, how much my interview with him would shape my life. I became a journalist years later.
I will miss our "Murray Man" dearly. There are few people in this world as wholesome and true as he was. I hope you are walking or riding your bike somewhere beautiful Murray. I know you'll certainly be on the move.

Murray you were a very big part of our childhood in Port Perry. Endless memories of painting with Murray and trips to Oshawa. I learned to drive in the paint van! Because of Murt I became our families resident painter. You will be missed and fondly remembered.
