Christine Kennedy Boyd posted a condolence

Dear Carol: I just heard of Brian’s passing and am sending condolences on behalf of the Kennedy family. Neil, Hugh and I had great experiences with Brian both as our teacher and colleagues in music education. My greatest disappointment was you two leaving Windsor and abandoning me without a grade 13 music class. One of my greatest experiences was the trip to London and my introduction to OMEA conference. Although many years have passed I still am thankful for the musical experiences I had with Brian as my teacher at KCI. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and memories of Brian remain in our hearts and minds.

Dear Carol, I am sorry to hear of the passing of your husband, Brian. Mr. Strachan was my music teacher at Kennedy Collegiate in Windsor, from 1966 to 1969. His love of music was expressed every day, in the way that he brought out the very best in each student. His Concert Bands, Stage Bands and Jazz Ensembles were always wonderful experiences for all young musicians. Brian and I worked on several committees together, when he was at Althouse College and I was a Vice-Principal in Middlesex County. Carol, l also remember your wonderful orchestras at Paterson and Herman Collegiate! Brian had a profound and lasting influence in the lives of all of his students. God bless you, Mr. Strachan! Sincerely, Richard J. Andrews

Dear Carol, my sincerest condolences to your family and you on Brian's passing. I knew Brian well from my days at Saunders Secondary in London and from my studies at the Faculty of Music and the Faculty of Education at Western. He mentored me in my early years of teaching, taking the time to travel up to Bruce County to work with me. He adjudicated my bands in Owen Sound. And, most remarkably, he played a beautiful trumpet concerto at my wedding in July of 1982. A truly great musician and educator. Yours, Cam Porter.

Brian was a dear friend who loved life to the fullest. He was very talented and shared his talents with everyone. One of my memories is when he played the piano when my granddaughter from Vancouver came and sang "Alleluia" at one of our Scramble dinner in Canterbury. He never complained when he had to adjust to all of us in Canterbury who were not professional singers either in the Canterbury Players, the choir directed by Carol, our Canada Day events and so on. Brian is still loved and forever missed.

Carol, my deepest condolences at this time of Brian’s passing. He profoundly affected my own teaching style and imparted his passion for the discipline. I shall remember Brian — and you — always.
Brian played the Vivaldi Concerto for Two Trumpets on stage with me in my grade 13 year. He gave me such a beautiful memory in doing that gig in support of me as a young student graduating high school. That was Brian through and through — ever the teacher, mentor, and supporter. Ever the friend.
Brian’s legacy lives on through his students and their students, and on, and on. In a very genuine sense, through his generosity of spirit, his enduring care for and about those around him, his talent and that passion for teaching, Brian has achieved immortality.
So many of us grieve with you, Carol. Please take some comfort in knowing that you are not alone.
With much love,
Stephan Grasmuck

He was instrumental for years in the Plays, the scramble dinners, the gong show, the choir and anything musical at the club house. Brian was a true friend and a good guy. We are going to miss our social times together with Brian & Carol. Mary Lou & Jim

So sorry to hear this sad news. Carol, sending our heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Brian and Carol were the best neighbours ever in Port Perry - always there to lend a helping hand. We always enjoyed sharing a glass of wine or a cold beer on a hot sunny day. It was always a pleasure to hear Brian's music - his wonderful piano playing and trumpet playing. Canterbury Common was blessed to have Brian's musical talents. Our granddaughters remember Brian as he sat patiently through a play put on by them in our basement. He then gave all three of them kazoos - so thoughtful and caring. We have so many good memories of our time as neighbours. He will be missed by many.

I was so sorry to hear this news and my heart goes out to Carol. I remember Brian from my high school days when he would come into our class and we would have an opportunity to play a new arrangement. It was always exciting to be the first to play his works and to be asked our opinion before he completed the final products. He always treated us like musicians. His dedication to music education was an inspiration and he will be greatly missed.

Dear Carol,
Brian was my Grade 10 teacher at Westminster, my prof at Althouse, and adjudicated my ensembles many times. He introduced me to the Duke, the Count, and Doc - in fact, he let me borrow more albums than I can remember! Sharon mentioned the call chart, which he pioneered with my class in 1973, and which I used on my own students during my career. I also used his compositions in my ensembles, like “ Take a Look Through Our Christmas Window”, a partner song with “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas “. Remember why he changed the name of it? He influenced so many lives, and will be missed by many. I feel fortunate to have had my life influenced by him.
