My sincere condolences Pat and family
It was with great sadness that I learned of Dave’s passing. As Bob Cox’s younger sister Dave became my second big brother and took this job seriously as he teased me mercilessly throughout my teen years and beyond....but played the protector as well...all just as a good brother would
Dave will be greatly missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know him

To the Sparling Family
We were saddened to get the news of Dave's (Sparls') passing. Dave and I became friends while at O'Neil Collegiate in Oshawa . I remember the 'Jolly Jingle' man and the smile he put on so many young faces. I will never forget the boat trip from our cottage to Trenton and the Waugh cottage. Dave water-skied on the Trent with the 'Great White Ducks' (seagulls). We didn't golf, we flogged and had fun doing it. He was my best man when Sheila and I were married in 1969. Every memory I have of Dave puts a smile on my face. He will be missed. So sorry for your loss.

Sparls brought such happiness to every room he was in. He has been such a joyful part of all of our family’s big events. Beyond that - he was there- through everything... we are not a small family and every wedding, engagement party, birthday party Dave (and Pat) were there. I will miss the comfort that came from seeing him. I am so sorry for your loss. This is Dave at my wedding (across the country) 15 some odd years ago.

Sparls lit up every room he walked into and his laughter warmed the soul. There are so many great memories I have of Dave, on the water, golfing or celebrating various events with family and friends. Dave and my Dad taught me what life long friends mean and also how to keep your buddies in check. Dave will be deeply missed my condolences to Pat and the Family.

Such a sad, sad day. I have wonderful memories of Sparky’s laughter, “old” jokes, silliness and bear hugs! Sparky will also be missed sorely on our golf days, but we’ll meet again on the 19th hole . My sincerest condolences to you, Pat, and your family.

When I think of Sparls, it brings a smile to my face. When I was young, I learned to waterski behind a 9.9HP aluminum boat, explored around the cabin, jumped off what seemed like huge cliffs at the time, had pig roasts and campfires with Sparls and his fam. We always had so much fun. Every time I have seen Sparls since then was always a lot of fun.
The world was a better place with Sparls in it and I will really miss his smile, laugh, jokes and general silliness. I am so sorry for your loss.

When I think of Dave, I think of sharing a laugh while riding on the chairlift at Skyloft. He was so upbeat and positive in his outlook, a breath of fresh air in these troubled times. Dave was always there to help others, working to protect our environment, driving strangers to hospital appointments, starting the Skylofters ski group, pitching in to help with my music events, and so much more. I will remember Dave as a man who made a difference, a positive force, who made the world a better place.
My heartfelt condolences to Pat and family.

Sparlings - I'd like to share a little story from last weekend. I was hiking with my daughter Tessy and we came across a granite and lake landscape that reminded me of the path to the old cottage. I stopped and then proceeded to tell what could have been a 30 second story over 5 minutes about how excited I used to get walking down that path. Always overloaded with stuff for the weekend so we didn't have to make two trips. So excited to play with Rob and Jay. So excited to waterski (taught by Sparls and dad) - not so excited to get beaten at Euchre by dad and Sparls. Yes, we could play Euchre before we could spell it. I can't believe they had signals all those years ago! Dang you Sparls and Dad! Sparls would let us experiment with the Johnson 9.9 - did you know you can get a piece of plywood on a plane behind a 9.9 and sit on a lawn chair? Why wouldn't we try that? Sparls was always telling us the story about how they put a sweater on a water marker and ski by and pick it up and put in on so they could waterski at dusk and not be cold. Later in life at my dad's house - visiting with Sparls and Pat - always so happy and fun to be around. Gonna miss his bigger than life smile and the old stories. So sorry for your loss. We are all thinking about you.
John
