Obituary of Marie Ann Hooey

Peacefully, on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Hope Terrace Nursing Home in Port Hope, at age 86. Marie (nee Dietsch), beloved wife of the late Gerald Hooey. Loving mother of Susan Johnstone and her partner Keith Baldry of Coboconk, Christine and her husband Bruno Trillard of Campbellford, Cathy and her husband Jean Pierre Rezard de Wouves of Martinique, French West Indies, and Peter Johnstone and his wife Valerie of Oshawa. Loved grandmother of Corey, Amanda, Rachel, Oliver, Amy, Nick, Rebecca, and Meghan and great grandmother of Ethan. Dear sister of Helen Young of Pickering, and predeceased her by sisters Joan Morris, Bernice Barron, and her brothers Jack Dietsch and George Dietsch.

Marie was a skilled bookkeeper. She was well known by car dealerships in the community for her orderly (and sometimes humorous) running of the vehicle licensing office on Water Street in Port Perry for many years. She enjoyed family trips to the Caribbean, bingo, and never missed an episode of Coronation Street or a Habs hockey game.

The family of Marie Hooey will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, "McDermott-Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171) on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 10 – 11 a.m. A Service to celebrate her life will be held in the Chapel at 11 a.m.  Private interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Hope Street Terrace for their compassionate care of mom. Special thanks to the PSW’s and nurses for sensitive caring and good night kisses. Mom, be at peace. You are finally with Gerald.
