Helping Yourself Heal From Loss

Loss affects everyone differently and while others can sympathize, they can’t really understand how it impacts you. Healing is a personal journey that involves effort, commitment, and space. At Wagg Funeral Home, we encourage people to take as much time as needed to complete this journey. Here are some tips that can help:

1. Give Yourself a Break

Adults have many responsibilities that include job, caring for family members, caring for dependents like children, etc. Most people place these responsibilities ahead of their own well being, even during times of grief. That can leave your healing incomplete and cause more stress. It’s a good idea to take a break whenever possible and just focus on yourself. This will help you on your journey towards recovery.

2. Ask For Help If Needed

Many people hesitate to ask for help because they don’t want to be a burden to others. Friends and other family members want to help but they can’t unless you tell them what you really need. Don’t hesitate to ask for help if things become too much for you to handle. For example, if the stress is too much, ask your parents or siblings to take care of your children for a couple of days so you can get yourself back to a better mindset.

3. Find Healthy Coping Mechanisms

Coping mechanisms help you deal with grief, relieve stress, and get on the path of healing. Some people drown their sorrows in alcohol, which can compromise a person’s health without putting them on the path of healing. There are better ways to cope with grief. You can take a long road trip, join dance or music classes, volunteer with a charity, take up art like sketching or painting. These things will help you get on the right path to healing.

If you want to know about funeral or memorial services, don’t hesitate to contact us at Wagg Funeral Home today and we’ll be happy to help.
