A Complete Understanding of Funeral Pricing

Funerals can be expensive affairs, especially if you choose to make some personal additions to the service. Most people are unaware of what funeral pricing includes and end up paying more than they need to. At Wagg Funeral Home, we provide straightforward pricing information so clients can prepare a budget and understand the costs involved. Here’s a brief breakdown of what to expect:

Basic Services Fee

This is often called “Basic Services of Funeral Director and Staff”. These fees can’t be declined and covers all basic costs along with related overhead expenses. The plan varies from one funeral home to the other, which is why it’s a good idea to get a detailed quote from an establishment before hiring them. In most cases, a basic plan will include services like:

  • Filing paperwork
  • Getting permits and copies of the Death Certificate
  • Storing the remains
  • Working with third-party establishments like cemetery or crematory
  • Overhead costs

These expenses are pretty standard for most funeral homes and will only vary if the establishment specializes in receiving or forwarding remains and doing nothing else.

Additional Services

These are supplementary services a funeral home will offer but you can decline. If you want a basic funeral, just the basic plan is enough and there’s no need to hire additional services. These services include:

  • Embalming
  • Viewing, visiting, or memorial service in funeral home premises
  • Use of funeral home transportation like a hearse or limousine
  • Containers like caskets, urns, or outer burial box
  • Burial clothing

These services are provided by the funeral home but are optional. You can hire other vendors for them though it is often more convenient to let one funeral home handle it. The establishment will require cash advances for third-party services like a cemetery or crematory use, clergy or celebrant, musicians, flowers, etc.

If you want to know about funeral or memorial services, don’t hesitate to contact us at Wagg Funeral Home today and we’ll be happy to help.
