Can I Have a Cremation and a Visitation

Cremations have been getting more and more common as an option for laying a loved one down to rest. This type of service allows for families to memorialize their loved one’s ashes and have the flexibility to customize the way in which they do this, in a way that pays a tribute to their loved one.

Although, there are many misconceptions with cremation that may confuse people with what their options really are when it comes time to planning a funeral service to say their last goodbye and honor their loved one. Many believe that a visitation or a viewing can only be done in a traditional funeral service where the deceased is placed in a casket and then buried in a graveyard. This is not true and cremation absolutely gives you the option to plan a service exactly the way you would like it.

You have many options to discuss with a funeral director to come up with a service that fulfills the wishes and desires of your family and your loved one. Prior to the cremation of the body, a family can choose to have a viewing of the deceased, in which most cases the family would have a rented casket unless they have chosen to purchase a casket for their loved one to be cremated along with the body.

The service will take place before the cremation and the family and friends of the deceased have the opportunity to have a funeral. There is also the option to have the cremation done first and then have a service afterward where the urn would be displayed in a church or in a location of the family’s choice.

It is important to know your options and the services available to your family during a trying time.
