Cremation is slowly becoming the preferred method of disposition after a person’s death. We at Wagg Funeral Home, have seen this trend emerge and while some people opt for it over burial, many don’t know what cremation involves. Most aren’t aware that there are different types of cremation and here is some information regarding them.

Types Of Cremation Services

There are four different types of cremation and each is distinct in what it involves:

  • Cremation With A Traditional Service - In this type of cremation the family organizes a funeral service where the body is placed in a casket and people pay their respects to the departed soul. The body is then cremated and the ashes handed over to the next of kin.

  • Cremation With A Memorial Service - This service involves a cremation and a memorial service afterwards where the urn with the ashes is placed at the memorial service venue. There is no casket or viewing in this cremation option.

  • Cremation Without A Ceremony (Direct Cremation) - In a direct cremation, the body will not be embalmed, and the family does not organize a visitation or viewing. The cremation takes places shortly after the person’s demise. This process is simpler and more cost-effective than the other options.

  • Cremation With The Body Being Donated To Science - Some individuals want to donate their full body to science, and certain scientific research organizations handle this aspect. These organizations also cover the cremation costs after they have conducted their research and experiments. Cremation becomes the only option because most of the organs and tissues are used in tests and experiments.
