It can be tricky to write an obituary, especially if you have never had to write one before. When you are reeling under the loss of a loved one, dealing with nitty-gritty such as these can add to your pain.

Some Tips To Write an Obituary Notice

The experts at Wagg Funeral Home are here to offer advice on how to write an effective obituary notice and these are some useful tips:

1. Include Important Details

The first thing you need to focus on is including all the relevant details so people that read the notice would know who you are writing about. Some things to include are:

  • The deceased person’s name
  • The place & time of their birth
  • The place & time of their death
  • The person’s permanent residence
  • Names of their close family members
  • The person’s occupation
  • If they were a veteran, write the branch or rank

Check the accuracy of all the information and make sure that the person’s full name is written as well. Mention nicknames if any, as it will help people recognize them when they read the obituary.

2. Information Regarding the Funeral Arrangements

Include information related to the funeral or memorial service etc. Make sure that you mention the venue, date and time and add the contact information as well for easy communication.

3. Personalization

If you only add basic information to the obituary, it can seem too bland. One way to make it unique is to add some details about the decedent, which will make the obituary notice more personalized. Add details such as his/her personality, hobbies or other interests, passions, and more. Do not make the piece too lengthy, as that will reduce the effect. It’s crucial that you keep the standard obituary notice length in view while writing it.
