Funeral Etiquette 101

A funeral is essentially a solemn affair, as there are many grieving individuals there. So if you are attending one, this is something you need to keep in view, and the etiquette that you follow should be such that it does not offend the person in any way. After all, you do not want to cause any pain to the person's family or close friends. When you are attending a funeral, there are some etiquettes you can keep in view:

  • You must choose the right kind of clothing. It would be inappropriate to attend the funeral wearing floral clothes or something very bright. Instead, choose something more subtle and sober and stay away from wearing very casual clothing. If any kids are attending the funeral with you can make sure that they are also dressed in the right manner.

  • Make it a point to be at the venue on time as arriving late and entering the place can disrupt the proceedings. If it is a good idea to plan your arrival correctly, keep travel time and traffic conditions in view, so you aren't delayed.

  • If you have been delayed due to unavoidable circumstances, make sure that you do not disrupt the event. Stand at the back of the venue and do not try to find seating at the front.

  • Make sure that your phone is on silent and that you are not taking calls or typing out messages as that can also disturb the funeral service. It's best to set the phone away rather than keep checking for messages while the service progresses.

If you want to know about our funeral or memorial services, don't hesitate to contact us at Wagg Funeral Home today, and we'll be happy to help.
